Gone Fishing: Nearby Lakes and Rivers

Cast away your troubles and go fishing in one of the nearby lakes and rivers when you visit us at Interlaken Inn. Whether you want to drop a line close by or cast away in a further bay, the options are endless.

Stop wishing, get out there and start your fishing adventure! Begin in Lakeville, CT on Lake Wononscopomuc or Lake Wononpakook. Both lakes offer a fairly quiet environment, as they are nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires. Lake Wononscopomuc is Connecticut’s deepest natural lake and is commonly used for swimming, sailing, canoeing, and fishing during the summer months. During the winter months, it is often used recreationally for skating and cross country skiing.

Lake Wononpakook is best for small boats as it is much more shallow. It offers a public boat launch, making it easy to take your fishing adventure to new horizons. Although there are no facilities nearby, the lake is perfect for a paddle or a swim for you and your dog. Keep in mind that the park is maintained by the town of Salisbury and closes at dusk.

Salisbury - Twin Lakes

Whether you are dropping a line on Lake Washinee or Lake Washining, there is always time for one more cast. Lake Washinee is about 1.6 miles long and under a quarter-mile wide. Its deepest part is 22 feet, making it the perfect location to drop a line and stay a while!

Lake Washining is much more round and has a maximum depth of 81 feet. The majority of the shore is a wetland, although there are some private residences that occupy the area. If you decide to bring a boat, Lake Washining offers public access, with both a carry-in State boat launch and a commercial marina. Take your pick and cast away!

Housatonic River

If you would rather take your fishing expedition to a river, the Housatonic River provides an excellent resource for fishing. It flows right through Salisbury and Lakeville, Connecticut and is approximately 139 miles long. It rises from four sources in farm western Massachusetts in the Berkshire Mountains and flows southward through western Massachusetts and into western Connecticut.

If you’ve never been fly fishing but you want to give it a try, we have a select few fly fishing guides in the area.

The Housatonic Outfitters will tailor various activities to your needs and will provide a turn-key program that is handled by professionals. From complete outfitting of gear and equipment to a group or individual instruction, this unique sport is gaining immense popularity.

The Housatonic Anglers is another option and has been around since 1993. They are a fly fishing guide service that provides anglers of all abilities with patience and insightful instruction. They offer a fun and knowledgable angler experience.
